Although winter is almost gone, you know that there is always a need for some winter activities for your kids. It might be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean that you have to stay in. Kids can get restless during the winter months and it can be great to go outside and bond with them. Participating in these winter activities with your kids will surely make you feel like a kid again.
- Sledding. What could be more fun than zipping down the hill on a sled? Young kids may need an adult to go with them, but older ones just need a ride to the nearest park.
- Ice Skating. Everyone loves to think about racing around the rink like the professional figure skaters we see on TV. Make sure to wear extra padding for the inevitable falls.
- Skiing. They say that it’s best to learn skiing when you’re young and have no fears. If there are ski resorts nearby (or you’re able to afford a vacation), it’s a good idea to start your kids skiing.
- Build a snowman. Once you’ve got enough snow and it’s just the right wetness, go out and teach your kids to build a snowman. Don’t forget the corncob pipe and button nose! Even better if you can find a magic hat to make the snowman come alive.
- Make snow angels. If the snow isn’t wet enough for a snowman, lie down and make snow angels. Be careful not to ruin it when you stand up again.
- Build a snow fort. Why stop with just a snowman. You can build a whole snow fort in your backyard. Kids love to pretend that they really live in a house made of snow.
- Have a snowball fight. Got your forts ready? Time to hide behind them for a good snowball fight. Watch out when the snow is really wet—those hurt!
- Snow shoes. Strap on a pair of snow shoes and go for a walk in the woods. Kids will be amazed at how the shoes allow them to walk on top of the snow.
- Make snow candy. Heat four parts maple sugar and one part salted butter together in a pan. Allow it to boil for about six minutes, then remove from heat for two minutes. Pour it over a plate of snow. It will cool very fast and makes a super-sweet treat.
- Drink some warm cocoa. After a couple of hours playing outside in the snow, there’s nothing like coming in to a nice warm cup of cocoa. Make sure you always have lots on hand.
Your kids will be so happy when you go outside to play in the snow with them and it’s great to see the look of amazement on young children’s faces as you teach them these new games.
