Everybody seems to be in a rush. We all live such busy lives. But have you thought about slowing down? Enjoy life at your own self-absorbed pace. Look at the details around you, and soak in the present moment.
Chasing bigger homes and cars, and more money - is this what life is all about? Would it not be better to slow down and enjoy family and friends more? We all want a nice home and to be financially free, but at what cost? Remember, being financially free doesn’t necessarily mean having millions of dollars. It means having enough money to live comfortably without ever having to worry about money.
What we need to do is search out the right work-life balance.
Many people are making unhealthy life choices; they are choosing to neglect important areas of their lives such as family, friends, and hobbies in favor of work-related chores and goals. Many people are experiencing burnout due to overwork and increased stress. This condition is seen in nearly all occupations from blue-collar workers to upper management.
According to a survey conducted by the National Life Insurance Co., four out of ten employees’ state that their jobs are “very” or “extremely” stressful. The study states that women, in particular, report stress related to the conflict between work and family.
Do you speed through the day on the fly? Do you lie in bed at night with the next hundred chores going through your head? Then you should slow down and look at the beauty in everything you do.
Look at the changing seasons, and the setting of the sun. Listen to the music found in laughter, and kind words from a friend. Take time in your schedule and consider doing any of the following:
- Go for regular short walks.
- Take a day off and spend quality time with your family.
- Take a long soak in the bath.
- Switch off and listen to some music.
- Take 10 minutes out and meditate.
- Call a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while.
- Have a weekend away.
- Take a few hours off and just chill out.
By slowing down you look at the world with new eyes.
The world just seems to be getting faster and faster and spinning out of control. Take a deep breath, slow down, and enjoy every minute of your journey.

It is amazing to me that it is easier for me to continue on the fast-paced, worry-filled path that I have taken than to slow down. Intuitively, one would think that the opposite would be true. Unfortunately, I find that I have to physically be somewhere else (I live in New York), such as Florida, where the weather is warm and I can be near the water to truly relax. It is a challenge to train one’s mind and body to ease up when surrounded by all that is familiar and contributes to the fast pace.
