In today’s busy world you need to stay on top of what you’re doing, and learn to manage your time more efficiently. Here are 10 time management tips for managing your time more efficiently:
1. Learn to say “no”. Sometimes you have to say no when people ask you to do things for them otherwise you take time away from your own workload.
2. Stay tidy. Do you know where everything is? A cluttered workspace or desk is a real time waster.
3. Work out a reasonable timescale for every project you do, and set deadlines for yourself - making sure you stick to the deadlines.
4. Don’t attempt to do too much too fast as it can lead to mistakes and badly finished work with no feeling of having accomplished anything worthwhile with your time. Know when you are your best and schedule important tasks for that time.
5. Set your day out in a planner and prioritize what you need to do first. If you don’t prioritize you can end up spending too much time on the minor things and not enough time on the important ones. Write your planner in pencil, and then you won’t feel bad about changing your plans.
6. Stop procrastinating. One of the biggest time wasters in your day is thinking about what you have to do, when what you should be doing is getting on and doing it!
7. Manage your emails and phone calls better. You can waste a lot of time checking your emails every half an hour. Try to check and answer your emails no more than twice a day. Would a phone call or an email be quicker?
8. Try to complete one project before starting out on another. This gives you the satisfaction of seeing a project finished and knowing you have achieved something with your time.
9. If you have a large project, break it down into smaller tasks and tackle each part one at a time, this will be less stressful and more efficient.
10. Many tasks can be done in a “spare” 10 minutes, including taking a quick break. Make the most of these snippets of time. Also look at your habits to see if they could be changed for the better. If you do certain things differently you may save yourself some valuable time.
