The kitchen is one of the most often used rooms in your house, so it’s no wonder it can become cluttered so easily! Here come ultimate kitchen ideas to help you combat clutter. However, with a little daily attention on the steps below, your kitchen can be transformed into one of the most comfortable and efficient rooms in the house.

  • Once a week before grocery shopping, go through your cabinets and refrigerator and toss out anything that is expired. Avoid impulse purchases at the store. This not only saves space in your kitchen, it reduces your grocery budget! Tip number one from kitchen ideas.
  • Avoid plastic overload. Do you REALLY need 14 million plastic storage containers? Who could have that many leftovers at one time? Remember, you’re probably only using a few containers at any one time in your fridge. Either repurpose the containers and use them for long term storage of pasta, rice, and cereal – or get rid of most of them. Don’t forget the lids. That was tip number two from kitchen ideas.
  • Keep only the spices you use regularly. I admit it; I’m a spice freak. Or at least I used to be. I’d see a good sale on herbs and spices and grab up dozens of bottles, “just in case.” How often did I use these spices? The large majority of them; never. Keep the spices you use often, but get rid of the rest – especially if they are old. Buy one of those neat magnetic spice holders and don’t keep more than it can hold.
  • Get a handle on the cups. Do you have dozens of drinking glasses, juice glasses, wine glasses, mugs, sippy cups, travel mugs, and more? How many of these do you really use on a weekly basis? Especially if you are washing dishes daily or almost daily, you really only need a few in your cupboard at one time. Store away the glasses you want to keep for special occasions or large gatherings, and then get rid of excess plastic cups, glasses and mugs. Kitchen ideas tip number 4.
  • Kitchen ideas tip number 5. Keep the food cabinets organized. Do you find yourself constantly buying stuff at the store only to get home and discover you already had some in the cabinet or freezer? Better organize and store what you have and you’ll avoid buying duplicates! After you’ve dumped all the expired items, designate a space in your cabinets and freezer for the foods you eat regularly, and label them if you are using storage containers. Then, at a glance you should be able to see what you have and what you need to buy.
  • Remove all non-kitchen related items. Does your counter end up being a “catch all” space for miscellaneous items? Do you find shoes under the table, homework and newspapers spread out on top of the table, and clothing draped over chairs? Create a daily habit of clearing these items out, and get your family members to do the same.
  • Process dishes immediately. If you’re in the habit of letting dishes pile up in the sink because the dishwasher is full, you need to put a better system in place for processing the endless flow of dishes your family uses. One good option is to run the dishwasher after dinner (or hand wash the dishes), and put them away first thing in the morning. As more dishes are dirtied throughout the day, rinse them immediately and place them in the dishwasher or dishpan. That was the ultimate tip number 7 from kitchen ideas.

Since you and your family spend so much of your time in the kitchen anyway, devoting a little extra attention to keeping it neat and orderly can not only boost your efficiency but make your time there much more enjoyable.
